Read full description of the books An Indian Social Democracy: Integrating Markets, Democracy and Social Justice: A Twin Volume Collection:An extraordinarily rich collection of writings and discussions by a host of eminent personalities from around the globe, this volume shares ideas and visions about an emerging India and the challenges the country faces across a gamut of issues. Drawing upon both the global and Indian experience of social democracy, it offers lessons from the many struggles to align competitive markets, democracy, and social justice. Can inequality be lessened without impeding the growth essential to sustain social spending? What is a sustainable pattern of growth? What cultural, political, and economic hurdles stand in the way of realizing India’s social democratic ideals? Answering these and other questions, this compilation puts India’s social democratic agenda and ambitions to critical scrutiny and challenges the political and ethical imagination of policymakers and citizens.
