Read full description of the books Harvest Of Murder:It's a shame the writing isn't better, because the premise is interesting. Almost all of the characters are unlikeable, and their behavior is often unbelievable to such an extent that it's detrimental to the narrative. There is very little character development, any information about the murder is gathered through gossip and luck, and the main character, Louise, displays all of the common sense of a child - her incompetence is often the only means for advancing the story. (After telling teenaged children not to walk around outside in the dark, because there's allegedly a serial killer on the loose, what does Louise do? Go for a walk by herself in the dark. After being asked by the police to do some discreet investigating, what does Louise do? Get caught. Twice.) The resolution isn't very satisfying, either, because the murderer's character becomes wildly different, even psychotic, just to create tension at the end. All of the Thanksgiving-related material has to do with Louise's inability to cook or plan a dinner, despite having invited more than ten guests, just to let you know in case you wanted to read this for the seasonal details. The whole book felt kind of raw, like it was waiting for some revisions to tighten up the plot, give the characters more depth, make the mystery more mysterious, get rid of the filler...
